Lugazi diocese gets its 22nd parish

 

Loocated along Gayaza-Kalagi road in Mukono district, the new parish was launched by Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga with the help diocesan bishop Matthias Ssekamaanya and several priests.

 

A Holy Mass attended by a huge congregation on Sunday started off the colourful function, with a procession of priests and deacons.

 

The people collected in big numbers, coming from various parishes and institutions making up the diocese of Lugazi, and others from beyond.

 

During the service, the new parish priest Fr. Pierre Kisangani Kasereka and his assistant Fr. Gilbert Paluku Maghesse under St Augustinians of the Assumption Congregation (Assumptionists Fathers) were installed.

 

Moments before installing them, Bishop Ssekamaanya read a letter signed by himself and his vicar general Msgr Richard Kayondo announcing the creation of the new parish in the diocese.

 

Fr. Kisangani then took vows in front of the congregation, promising to take on his new responsibility.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In his homily, Archbishop Lwanga thanked Bishop Ssekamaanya for allowing his village church to become a full Catholic parish.

 

Lwanga further thanked the priests, parishioners, Pastoral Council, the various committees and statutory bodies that work for the common good of the parish, and all who sacrifice their time, talent and treasure for the good of the Church.

 

He advised the faithful to be at peace with one another and to avoid actions that may cause breach of peace in their various communities and Parishes.

 

Quoting John 10: 10 and Romans 12: 4-5, Lwanga said everyone’s responsibility is to build the church. He underlined that a church is not just a building, but is the body of Christ.

 

On his part, Ssekamaanya thanked Archbishop Lwanga for the good work he has done to build a new Church, saying the new parish would reenergize the works of the Lugazi diocese.

 

Buganda Prince David Wasajja represented the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi – his elder brother – at the function.
