Gov't to blame for youth unemployment, rampant poverty

Uganda government is to blame for the above topic. With all available natural and human resouses, Uganda could not be still lying in the third world.

The problem is that many government bodies are not performing. Take an example;

 

Immigration control department. This department is in a good position to earn government billions of shillings in revenue from visa and work permits. These are good sources of revenue to government.

 

Government should be more creative. Not only looking at URA as the only revenue collector when there are other departments that can contribute on revenue collection but are lacking how?, if you are to take an example, the huge number of foreigners living and working in this country without valid documents, if they are to pay visa and work permits, how much money/ revenue can government collect?  

 

And they know by law, section59 that any non citizen of Uganda is prohibited to live or work in Uganda without legal documents. But do not act accordingly instead government put focus on Ugandans especially Venders, boda- bodas and taxi .Very subversive.

 

This reluctance by ministry of internal affairs particularly, immigration control office counts a huge loss to the government.

 

First and far most, these illegal foreigners start competing with Ugandans in job market and they play a big role in weakening our local currency hence inflation in the country since they create demand for foreign currencies other than our local shillings. As we all know, demand determines the price.

 

 It is very absurd that Uganda is among the most indebted nations in the world with an estimated debt of sh.15.9 trillion when we have these vast sources of revenue.

 

Only government is focusing on taxing and prosecuting nationals targeting street venders, boda-bodas and taxi operators for revenue leaving millions of foreigners moving freely without legal documents which could as well earn more revenue to the government.

 

In this regard, I cannot forget to thank Ms, Allen Kagina for setting a good example in Uganda for her tremendous achievements in URA as director. You are a good example.

 

I have a belief that if immigration control department is strengthened, Uganda’s problems like unemployment, poverty and inflation will be fixed.

 

If immigration is strengthened, Uganda is likely to archive its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and vision 2040.

 

Therefore government should put in more effort to strengthen this department by increasing on the work force especially in field department.
