Kickboxing: Bwete-Kikenwa fight launched

The match, slated for Independence Day eve, will pit Shakur Yusuf Bwete of Luzira Prisons against Abu Kikenwa of Pentagon club in Natete.

The general secretary of the National Council of Sports Jasper Aligaweesa, together with the world director of the World Kickboxing Federation German Frits Exenberg, have launched a kickboxing fight slated for October 8.

The match will pit Shakur Yusuf Bwete of Luzira Prisons against Abu Kikenwa of Pentagon club in Natete.

Their fight Independence Day eve fight is scheduled to take place at Lugogo MTN Arena.
 
On his part, Aligaweesa praised the organizers of the event and the Uganda Kickboxing Federation for promoting the game beyond Uganda’s borders to such an extent that even the world leader of the sport was invited to attend the launch.
 
The duo will vie for the vacant national title which is a cruiser weight contest (82 kg).

Also the NCS official praised local kickboxer Moses Golola for helping bring the sport back into the limelight.
 
He went on to thank sponsors and promoters who have come up to raise the standards of other talented fighters as well.
 
“We should thank Moses Golola because many Ugandans did not know the sport that is now attracting many new promoters and sponsors,” he said.
 
Fight promoter Joseph Onek, a retired fighter himself, said they have many undercard fights for the match day that will comprise of youths and women.
 
The two main fighters of the day (Bwete and Kikenwa) have a lot in common; both are 28, have 12 professional fights as well as either winning all but one (defeat) of that lot. Kikenwa has nine knock-outs (KOs) on his wins.
