Mwinyi impressed by cancer ward progress

Former president of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi has commended the construction of Rotary and Centenary Bank cancer ward

The former president of the Republic of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi has commended the good progress made so far in the construction of sh1.3b Rotary and Centenary Bank cancer Ward at St. Raphael of St. Francis Hospital, Nsamba and rallied Ugandans to come out in large numbers to give support.


You must all be very proud of what this collective effort has achieved.


I must recognize first and foremost all the Rotarians in Uganda who made the courageous decision to champion this initiative.


I also recognize sponsors and individual sponsors who have given considerable resources to the construction and equipping of this ward.” he said.

The former president has  said this after his guided tour of the ward.  


The planned 36-bed capacity ward will help to supplement the current limited facilities in the country, in prevention and treatment of cancer in Uganda.


“I know many of you will take part in the run because cancer has touched your lives directly or someone you know and love” he added


The ex-president, who arrived in Uganda with a group of Rotarians from Tanzania on Friday, is the chief walker at the third edition of the annual Rotary Cancer Run which is taking place tomorrow starting at the Kololo Ceremonial grounds.


In his remarks, the chairman of the Uganda Rotary cancer Programme, Mr. Stephan Mwanje said, “We thank the partners that supported the run in 2013 in joining the fight against cancer by participating in the cancer run and other initiatives. 


What started as a dream is becoming a reality.  Cancer is one of the biggest health concerns in Uganda Today and we are sure this ward will be a major milestone in the fight against it.”
