Golden Jubilee routes unveiled

The Police has issued traffic guidelines to be followed by thousands of Ugandans expected to throng the Kololo ceremonial grounds for the Golden Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday.

Accordingly, Upper Kololo Terrace will be closed to the general public from its junction with John Babiha and Wampewo Avenue, starting at 05:00am to the end of the function. John Babiha Avenue will be open only to vehicles bearing yellow stickers.

Kampala Metropolitan Police traffic commander Lawrence Niwabiine said Lower Kololo Terrace will also be closed to motor vehicles; it will be a pedestrian zone. Residents of that area will use Golf Course Road.

He noted that all invited guests with vehicles bearing white stickers will access Kololo via Wampewo Avenue and it will be one-way from Wampewo roundabout. They will park at Kololo Grounds, Housing Finance Bank and Hotel Africana.

After the function, Wampewo Avenue will be one-way traffic from Kololo.

Niwabiine added that vehicles bearing blue stickers will park at City High School and it will be accessed from Jinja Road-Archer Road, Upper Kololo and connect via Impala Avenue.

Guests without vehicles bearing blue stickers are advised to use Lugogo Bypass to access parking at City High School.

Niwabiine said unauthorised vehicles and motorcycles would not be allowed to the independence grounds.

He warned that all motor vehicles parked or abandoned by the roadsides will be towed away to Jinja Road Police Station at the owners’ cost.

The Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba, said all trucks carrying goods from Jinja will not be allowed into Kampala, starting today till the end of celebrations.

“The Kampala-Jinja high way will be busy ferrying guests and people to the celebration venue. So, all heavy vehicles should be parked in Jinja until Wednesday,” she advised.
