Two Ugandan swimming coaches have landed scholarships to enable them improve their skills at Leipzig University in Germany.

Tonnie Kasujja, the Aga Khan Schools coach and Lilian Mugisha, a teaching assistant at Makerere Sports Science department will have five months of training.

While handing over the scholarship, the Germany embassy’s Charge’ d’Affairs to Uganda Joachim Duster urged the coaches to maximally exploit the training opportunity.

“In sports, it’s not only about luck. You have to do things in a methodological way,” said Duster. He urged the Uganda government and the private sector to invest in sport.

This is the second time Ugandan swimming coaches are benefitting from a training programme in Germany.

Dolphins coach Muzafar Muwanguzi was the first beneficiary of the programme four years ago. Uganda Swimming Association president Don Rukare hailed the German embassy for the gesture. He said the programme will go a long way in capacity development.

“We stand to benefit more because we expect you to come back and impart your knowledge to other people in the country,” Rukare told the coaches.
