Health concerns in Buikwe district need urgent attention, the district Woman MP Dora Mpiima has disclosed.

Mpiima who was addressing residents of Najja Sub County during a weeklong health camp organised by Center for Health Human Rights and Development (CEHURD) described the health situation in the district as ‘wanting’.

Over 500 people received free treatment and health services in the areas of oral health, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, safe male circumcision, screening of cancer, diabetes high blood pressure and other Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Mpiima hailed CEHURD for the services rendered to her electorate. “This project is aimed at setting of the new global goals for health beyond 2015,” she said.

Juliana Nantaba the Center for Health Human Rights and Development field coordinator said findings indicate that at least 30% of the wives in Buikwe had to seek approval from their husbands before seeking family planning services.

“We discussed family planning services and access, antenatal care, delivery, postnatal care, post-abortion care, HIV services (particularly mother-to-child transmission of HIV, testing and counseling services), malaria, diarrhoea, non-communicable diseases including diabetes, cancer, and hypertension,” said Nantaba.

Nantaba noted that Buikwe district faces numerous challenges related to access to information concerning health delivery of health services.
