The High Court Criminal Division has committed Gomba Woman MP Nakato Kyabangi Katusiime to civil prison over sh79m debt, owed to Kenroy Investments (U) Ltd.
Assistant Registrar Irene Akankwasa on Tuesday afternoon sent the MP to Luzira prison after she refused to honour the warrant of arrest that was issued on July 24, 2014.
The MP was arrested by court bailiff Isaac Twikirize Kabateraine during morning hours and produced in court to answer her charges. By press time, the MP was trying to solicit money to pay the debt.
The media has recently been awash with stories of MPs being heavily indebted.
Prominent of them is Busiro South MP, Joseph Balikuddembe whose arrest warrant has been extended a record four times for failing to honour court summons.
