Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has urged the youth to engage in sports as an enterprise that he said  can provide a steady source of income besides keeping them healthy.

While speaking at end of Bukoto Central cup finals, which was part of activities marking the Youth Day celebrations for Masaka at Kamuzinda playground in Masaka district, Ssekandi said that sports has played a major role in unifying people irrespective of political, religious, geographical or racial origins.

He hailed private sports funders like JV CON. Engineering and constructors for co-funding youth sports projects in his area.

The Vice President pledged to work with local leaders to improve the quality of playgrounds, as well as providing sports gear to organized rural teams particularly in Bukoto and Masaka.

Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi hands over sh1m to the team captain of Kabonero Youth Football team who trounced Kyesiiga Youth Football team 3:0

He encouraged the youth to engage in agriculture and donated maize, bean and coffee seedlings.

The Vice President handed over a trophy to Kabonero sub county youth football team who beat Kyesiiga 3: 0 in the finals of the tournament, sh1m and 150kgs of maize and beans.

Kabonero Girls netball team received sh1m and 150kgs of maize and beans while the losers each received sh500, 000 as participating teams received sh300, 000.

Bwanika Cranimer from Kyantale won the 10km bicycle race and received a new bicycle and 20kg of maize. Four other best winners received bicycle parts and maize and bean seeds.
