Government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Pakistan group to construct a fully pledged private university in Masaka district.

During a meeting with the Pakistan delegation at his office in Kampala, the Vice President Edward Ssekandi said that Pakistan has vast knowledge in cardiac related illnesses saying the university will help in training more Ugandans and reduce on costs of treatment abroad.

He said that the country still yearns for more specialized medical professionals in complex fields like neurology, and other internal human internal areas which he said are emerging challenges to the health sector in the entire Great Lakes Region and Africa in general.

Professor Awaise Rooof Chairman Lahore University who led the ten-member delegation said that Masaka was chosen to host the University Science and technology as a result of many Ugandans students excelling at Lahore University.

The Vice President also received Sheikh Faisal Bin Saud Al Thani member of Qatar royal family a Business Development Director of Qatar Investment Authority who led a delegation of Qatar business entrepreneurs who are in the country to explore investment opportunities.

Ssekandi said that Qatar is a new partner for development adding that Uganda has the best investment policies like 100% repatriation of profits, provision of investment land and tax holidays for foreign direct investments.

Sheikh Faisal Bin Saud Al Thani said that Qatar is investing in mining in Sudan, Red sea countries, Khodorfan, as well as owning Hassad Food Company with 51% shares in the Indian Basmati Rice Company since 2013.
