Fire guts Ground Zero in Wandegeya

A fire swept through Ground Zero Bar in Wandegeya where revelers had gathered to watch football games, destroying plenty of property.

The blaze broke out at around 10:15pm on Wednesday evening. Eye witnesses claim the fire originated from the manager’s office which is found on the upper floor of the bar.

 

 

Fire Brigade arrived 40 minutes later and managed to contain the flames which were threatening to spread to nearby Barclays Bank and Ecobank offices.

Firefighters were however unable to prevent the fire destroying Owenz Bar and Kings’ Sport Betting whose offices were consumed in the blaze.

 

 

 

There were no fatalities or serious injuries recorded. Mukwaya Farouk, a bouncer with Ground Zero was caught in the stampede that ensued after the fire broke out and escaped with a dislocated shoulder.

Property worth millions was lost in the fire including 15 slot machines which are estimated to cost 10m shillings each.
