Four people were rushed to Fort Portal regional referral hospital in critical condition after they miraculously survived a grisly accident Wednesday morning in Fort Portal town
.

The accident, which ground traffic along Katuramu street to a standstill, involved a Fuso lorry registration number UAU 761L, a Toyota saloon registration number UAG 140W, a Bajaj boxer motorcycle registration number UDR 890M and a cyclist.

It all happened when the driver a speeding Fuso lorry which was loaded with Highland mineral water coming from Kasese road lost control and failed to negotiate the main roundabout in Fort Portal town.

The unidentified driver, currently on the run, rammed into a saloon car and cyclist that were waiting to join the main road from Moldina Street.

“The driver of the Fuso lorry lost control because he was over speeding yet there was a roundabout just ahead of him,” William Kyaligonza, a motorist who survived the accident told the New Vision.

Kyaligonza’s motorcycle was crushed beyond repair.

Kyaligonza who parks his motorcycle along Katuramu Street explained that “I jumped off the motorcycle where I was resting waiting for customers upon realizing that the lorry had lost control; it rammed into a saloon car and all were pushing towards where I was”.

The injured were identified as Pastor Peace Lowoza of Christian Fellowship, Abel Kanyankole and one only identified as Cathy all traveling in a saloon car.

It took the effort of the Police fire brigade to wash away leaking petrol from the road.

“We have fears that the petro that has been flowing here if exposed to friction could catch fire and lead to another accident” Geoffrey Kaheebwa, the District Police Commander for Kabarole, said.
