UGLA endorses Museveni for 2016

MEMBERS of the Uganda Local Government Authority (ULGA) have resolved to front President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the sole National Resistance Movement Party (NRM) candidate.

During the celebrations to mark their existence of 25 years at Jinja Nile Resort, Sam Wadri the Arua vice chairperson read a motion fronting president Museveni as the sole candidate.

The motion was seconded by over 400 delegates who attended the meeting which was presided over by Fredrick Gume Ngobi ULGA’s president and also a member of the party.

The meeting was attended by district Chief Adminstatitive Officers (CAOs), speakers, LC3 chairpersons and District Chairperson’s from all over Uganda, delegates from Botswana and Rwanda  under the theme ‘Celebrating 20 years for ULGA: Pratical partnerships between state and non-states’.

“To all members in this tent who subscribe to NRM please stand up except our visitors and the CAOs, because our chairperson from Arua has some to say,” Gume said.

As the delegates rose up with their thumbs high, Wadri read his motion to front Museveni. However efforts by Salaamu Musumba the Kamuli district Woman chairperson who grabbed a microphone from Gume to call for a point of order fell on deaf ears.

“As you know there is no point of order, this is our time to express our resolution, also you as the opposition wait when your time comes, I will give you a chance to speak because I have to exercise my powers because I was elected by the majority people,’ Gume said.

However it didn’t go well with Bbaale Buwanika the Wasiko chairperson who subscribes to Democratic Party when he was given the list of names that had embraced the resolution.

He tore the list to shreds saying it was the wrong forum to address party matters.

Musumba the Kamuli Chairperson wondered why Gume one of the leaders who read to her rules of UGLA in Entebbe had to defy them and use the platform to pass the resolution.

“I was warned by ULGA laws not to bring party politics into the authority which is neutral but now I wonder what our president has done. As NRM they should get other ways to address their problems and not bring them to us because each party has its unique challenges.
