Golfers intending to compete in the Uganda Open should come prepared for new challenges as management is redesigning the outlook of the course.

UGC vice-captain Dr. Robert Lim Lim told a press conference at the Sheraton hotel that the club had appointed a dedicated team to create a new look around the course ahead of the open due September 1-6.

“We are creating a new character for the course, we have had a change-over of the greens, fairways and roughs have been given a new touch. The course has been generous but now it has changed and golfers will require a lot of technique to go around it,”

He said the level of change has been tremendous and it will be played as a par 71 for the open following the reducing of hole No.13 from a par 5 to a par 4.

This year’s winner will on top of other prizes enjoy a ten-day free paid tour of the country courtesy of the Uganda Tourist Board.

“We are proud to be associated with the game of golf which is a growing and global sport. We believe that the game is an integral part of tourism; our courses are unique so we are using some of these ingredients to position Uganda as a tourist destination. If we attract these golfers we shall be able to market the country,” Edwin Muzahura whose company offered sh10m towards the open said.

The main event will be contested for by golfers of handicap 0-8 while the subsidiary event will have players of handicap 9-15.
