The people of Malangala subcounty in Mityana district have petitioned the Inspector General of Government (IGG) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (CID) over shoddy construction works of bore holes and classroom blocks in the area.

The sub-country chief, Mande Buwembo, said many of the bore holes in the area stopped working immediately after being commissioned and contractors have not explained to communities the cause of the problem yet they were fully paid.

“The bore holes were hurriedly done; some at night. We have lodged a complaint to the IGG and CID to conduct thorough investigations in this matter,” said Buwembo.

Buwembo, who was on Monday addressing bitter residents of Nono and Dajje in Magonga parish, who are some of victims of fake bore holes and fake school classroom blocks and pit latrines, said there are government offi cials at the district who are behind the racket.

“It is unbelievable that the district chief administrative offi cer and the district education offi cer, oversee such rotten projects for the communities and fail to take immediate action. It is high time the Government took action against all those involved in this racket,” Buwembo said.

He said investigations shouldbegin from the tendering process and there is need to show the community the bills of quantities for the projects.

Some school classroom blocks and pit latrines were poorly constructed, putting pupils’ lives at risk. Schools have just opened for third term.
