NSSF has announced a total of sh50m sponsorship up from sh25m last year for the 2014 NSSF KAVC International championships due in Kampala this weekend.

The sponsorship package will take care of the tournament equipment, officials’ allowances, trophies advertising and cash prizes.

With increased package, NSSF also announced a $500 (sh1.3m) cash prize for men and women champions of the NSSF KAVC International while the runners up will pocket $300 (sh780000) in the categories respectively.

Last year the winners bagged sh500,000 while the runners up ended with sh300,000 respectively making the new figures more than double.

At a press conference at their headquarters at Workers House in Kampala, the funds acting head of marketing Edgar Birungi said that they had chosen to continue sponsoring the championship to nurture the youth and enhance its competitiveness in the annual event.

The package for championship brings NSSF’s total package for volleyball to sh110m. NSSF also sponsors the Uganda Volleyball League.

“We are pleased to join KAVC host this exciting tournament. This international competition gives us an opportunity to contribute to the development of volleyball and nurture youth talent,” Birungi told the media while handed the package to the club president Mofaht Masaba.

Uganda’s Nkumba Navy are the women’s champions after they won their first NSSF KAVC International last year while the men’s title is held by INATEK of Rwanda.

A total of 23 local and foreign clubs have confirmed their presence in the championship that will be staged at MUBS Arena in Nakawa, Namboole and the MTN Arena in Lugogo Saturday and Sunday.
