Mao to be discharged from Nairobi Hospital

Democratic Party (DP) president general Norbert Mao has improved and is scheduled to be discharged on Tuesday from Nairobi Hospital, according to his brother, Dusman Okee.

Mao, who was flown to Nairobi hospital after a malaria attack and severe chest pains, has been hospitalized for two weeks.

“He is fine now and is actually moving up and down,” Okee said, adding that the doctors however recommended bed rest for a month before he can resume his duties.

Okee added, “We were advised to have him rest in Nairobi and not Uganda as they believed he will be disturbed because he is a politician.”

According to family sources, Mao was admitted to Gulu Independent Hospital and was later transferred to Lacor also in Gulu before medics there advised that he should be taken to “a better health facility.

They said his body failed to respond to medication as his condition worsened, prompting the family to fly him to Kenya for better medication.

Medics in Nairobi hospital carried out ‘a number of tests” to ascertain the cause of acute pain in his chest.

The DP Secretary General, Mathias Nsubuga said Mao and other politicians were in northern Uganda when he fell sick to attend a political rally.

Okee said a few close friends and journalists will be allowed to visit Mao in Nairobi.
