Heathens defied odds on away turf to edge hosts Kobs 19-17 in the semi-final before humbling Buffaloes 12-5 in the final to win the third leg of the ECO Bank Rugby 7s circuit at Legends Kampala Rugby Club on Saturday.

Buoyed by a cheering home crowd, Kobs secured a 12-0 half time lead through a try by Justin Kimono and another with a conversion by Joseph Aredo.

Heathens launched an attack that yielded a try by Bishop Onen before Alan Otim added another both converted by Jasper Ochen to give Heathens a 14-12 lead.

Kimono added a try to give Kobs a 17-14 lead sending the crowd into jubilation but celebrations was short-lived as Ochen scored a last minute try to give Heathens a 19-17 win.

“It was a tight semifinal and the winner obviously had to take the final but we shall re-organise and fight back in the final circuit on Saturday,” Kobs’ captain Brian Odong stated.

In the final Wokorach and Otim got a try each and Ochen a conversion as Heathens won 12-5. Robert Sseguya scored Buffaloes’ consolation try.

Pirates struggled for the second time winning the bowl final but that ruled them out of the main title.
