Western boxing show on

Over 30 boxers have confirmed participation in the Western Region Boxing Championship scheduled for Agip Motel in Mbarara this weekend.

The boxers, drawn from Kabale, Mbarara, Kiruhura, Kasese and Rukungiri districts, will compete in the Junior flyweight, flyweight, bantamweight, lightweight, welterweight and super middleweight categories.

“We are organising this event because we want to promote the sport in this region. We have the talent that has remained untapped and this is the beginning of a new chapter,” tournament official Adam Kassim said.

The event that will have qualifying rounds before the finals next week, is the first of its kind in the region.

The championship is sponsored by ASK General Services and Vision Group. Organizers said the championship will be held on an annual basis.

They added it will be used to pick boxers to compete in the national championships.
