Identity card, do I or don't I need it

 

 

Ekitambulisho kyo etc.... Is there a catch in these adverts? Do you run and buy Samona jelly or buy that Airtel Simcard because of the persuasive advert?

 

Maybe yes, maybe no. But of course these adverts have the power to make you and I make a choice. Many a time our emotional attachment to something starts to be felt outward after we do feel appreciated and reminded that we made the right choice by sticking to Airtel or MTN because of the many surprises and gift hampers given to its ardent customers.

 

Often times we have heard a radio presenter run/pitch an advert or announcement for a product he or she hardly uses but the power of money knows nobody. We the fans will then think, if Fatboy or Seanice can promote that brand then it surely is worth its name. 

 

It is, however, absurd that these same radio presenters that have a big following close to a fanatic cult can take to a morning show on one of the most listened to radio stations and bash a national activity that has very many benefits to it unlike these several adverts we see running on our televisions that make us afford only but a yawn at the end.

 

It is beyond doubt that Uganda does need the National Identity Card for all its citizens. It is actually long overdue and I would expect everybody to see the positive in it and not hurry to castigate the Government when it brings on board a new initiative.

 

Detractors will hurry to recall that the exercise had failed in the past, Uganda cannot manage such a project, we are not ready, the Government is ‘stealing’ people's records and so much more. But do you know that the kits from the earlier registration are being used in the field currently?

 

Every new process will definitely have hitches and lessons to be learnt to be able to improve in the next attempt, surely why would the Government steal our records? It is not like they couldn't actually get these records just by asking where you work to furnish them or the schools you have gone to, to provide them.

 

The Government works for you and for me so we should begin to realise we are the Government. So if the Government is failing, then you and I have failed in totality.

 

When outsiders are referring to something in Uganda, they don't point to the President alone it is the country, when Uganda was ranked one of the most alcoholic countries in Africa, did the sample study even consider your humble opinion, or that there that are people that are not bothered by alcohol?

 

No it didn't but when I am defending my country, I don't say you see people who drink are found mainly in Katanga, nobody knows Katanga, the record they have is Uganda and thus the whole country is shamed not a cluster of individuals.

 

Ok I digress, but I meant to say, let us not listen to detractors in this era and time, we all know the National ID will help ease our movements (passports were even bulky), help us gain entry and exit into the EAC countries to be able to trade swiftly, access some of the long awaited for medical benefits (these are coming soon so be optimistic already), have a good and organised database of the Citizens of Uganda and the most important of all offer you and me the most acceptable identification of our country for a change (please stop with those IDs that you buy at sh1,000 from outside the taxi park and in your various villages).

 

Need I say more, August 11, 2014 is when the first phase of the registration will be closed giving time for other important Government activities to be undertaken, so go have yourself registered and do not listen to detractors who have access to public forums to dissuade and discourage you from taking part in this exercise.
