In the main medal event, South Africa ambushed four time champions New Zealand 17-12 to take the gold medal. Australia took the bronze after beating Samoa 24-0.

Rugby Cranes were beaten 40 - 0 by England

England edged neighbours Wales 17-15 to win the plate event.

“Standards were high, and I must say there were lots of lessons for us. We shall definitely raise our game next time,” noted assistant coach Yayiro Kasasa.

Meanwhile, Shida Leni was the only Ugandan who advanced from the women’s 400 meter heats on Sunday.

She clocked 54:77 in a race won by Jamaica’s Williams-Mills in 52:39.
