Three nominated for FDC presidency

Forum for democratic change’s (FDC) electoral commission has nominated three candidates to contest for the party’s top position.

Forum for democratic change’s (FDC) electoral commission has nominated three candidates to contest for the party’s top position.

The three who are contesting for FDC party presidency include; Nandala Mafabi, (Leader of opposition) Gen Mugisha Muntu (secretary for mobilization) and shadow minister for finance Geoffrey Ekanya.

According to the FDC electoral commission chairman Dan Mugarura, Nandala and Ekanya were nominated on Friday afternoon while Gen Muntu was nominated on Saturday Morning after meeting the commissions’ requirements.

The candidates who were nominated at FDC headquarters in Najjankumbi, were required to present to the commission a valid FDC membership card, Sh2 million ,an identity card , four passport size photographs , national voters identity card , fully filled nomination forms and a birth certificate.

FDC Spokesperson Wafula Ogutu told New Vision yesterday that the candidates will be given up to close of next month to traverse the country seeking for support from party members.

“They will be required to resign their current positions first. We expect them to take leave from their offices for the period they will be campaigning. They will only resume after elections,” said Wafula.

Ogutu who is also Bukhooli central MP added that, the candidates will not be allowed to use official cars attached to their offices but will only use private vehicles.

He noted that elections for the new party president will take place on September 22, when the new FDC president will be elected to replace Dr. Kizza Besigye who has been party president since 2005.
