The Vision Group has committed to working together with MTN Uganda to conduct training for journalists covering the telecommunications sector.

The Vision Group has committed to working together with MTN Uganda to conduct training for journalists covering the telecommunications sector.

During a tour of the Vision Group Television and Radio Studios and Printing Press in Industrial Area, Kampala Wednesday afternoon, the newly-appointed MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Mazen Mroue offered to conduct a specialized training programme for journalists covering the telecommunications sector in order to provide an appreciation of technical issues.

“This is a commitment from us because we know that there are many good journalists in Uganda but there is a general lack of technical knowledge about what this sector does and how it operates. We should work together to transform technology and the media,” Mroue said.

Mroue added that MTN would make arrangements for the training module to be conducted in coming weeks covering a wide range of issues that would help improve reporting on telecommunication issues.

Vision Group Chief Executive Officer Robert Kabushenga, who hosted the MTN team at his premises, said Vision Group would build on the long and significant relationship between the two companies.

“We will share ways of working together for the benefit of the industry in general. We both give each other mutual benefit through our businesses and there is no reason for us not to build on that,” Kabushenga said.

The MTN CEO said he was deeply impressed by the Vision Group facility, as well as the products distributed by the media house.

“I want to tell you that ur primary focus as MTN will be the new generation, the young are more technologically savvy so it is a key focus area for us, and we can see that you will be instrumental in helping us with this objective,” Mroue said.

Both Vision Group and MTN Uganda are leading players in their respective fields in Uganda, enjoying the lion’s share of the market in media and publishing, and telecommunications respectively.
