German motocross trainer Jurgen Kuper started handling the national team on Tuesday at Garuga racing track as they prepare for the FIM Africa Central Africa Motocross championship in Nairobi next month.

Kuper, who was the guest rider on Sunday during the fifth round of the NOMI National Motocross championship, started with fine tuning the riders on how to control the power of the bike in the various sections.

Handling the totos who impressed him a lot with the rate at which they were learning, Kuper said that it’s the belief of the rider that makes him what he wants to be.

“They are responding very fast especially the kids. My friend here (Imran Nkurunziza) is doing well and is a fast learner,” Kuper stated while instructing the others to be focused while riding.

He discouraged the riders to always ride behind the opponent because the dust from their bike will always distract them.

“Riding behind your colleague is dangerous because you may not see the stones on the track and eventually you fall. He added.

Low turn up affects training

Being a school day and many riders sitting for school exams, the turn up was too low and he could not take them through all drills as he had to wait for others that will turn up on Friday and Saturday.

Kuper trains the 85cc, 65cc, and 50cc in the morning and then the MX1, MX2 and seniors in the afternoon.

Maxime Van Pee, John Schrier, Zeb Byaruhanga, Zaya Byaruhanga, Yogi Nkurunziza, Arthur Blick Jnr and Vince Schrier made it to training.

The Sunday motocross was sponsored by Mukwano Group of Companies and co-sponsored by TOTAL Uganda, Vision Group business unit of Xfm, Urban Tv, New Vision, IAA Health Care, Safe Solutions and Fotogenix.
