Museveni meets oil firms over L. Albert basin

President Yoweri Museveni has held discussions with officials from Cnooc, Total and Tullow oil, the three main companies involved in oil exploration in the Lake Albert basin.

President Yoweri Museveni has held discussions with officials from Cnooc, Total and Tullow oil, the three main companies involved in oil exploration in the Lake Albert basin. 

The Thursday meeting was aimed at addressing various issues, including outlining the operators’ vision for the basin’s development and the creation of a committee to oversee the basin’s development projects.

Tullow Oil Group was represented by Elly Karuhanga, Paul Mcdade, Martyn Morriss, Etin Mekle, Paul Watkins, Nick Stranks and Gilbert Kamuntu, while the Total delegation included Serge Matesco, Loic Laurandel, Thieery Autin and Ahlem Friga-Noy. The CNOOC team included Xiao Zongwei and Xiangdong Liu. 

The Uganda delegation included ministers Maria Kiwanuka, Abraham Byandala, Dr. James Mutende, Rose Namayanja, Flavia Munaaba, Ephraim Kamuntu and  Eng. Irene Muloni. Officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority, led by the commissioner general, Allen Kagina, also attended.
