Former seed three Wasswa Kayiya beat Joseph Serwanja as veterans maintained top form in the Rubaga Division Nile Special Open qualifiers over the weekend.

The all-veteran final produced a thrilling encounter that kept spectators on their toes at Pacify Hotel Saturday.

It was a see-saw affair as Wasswa who stopped Meddie Kalanzi 3-2 in the last four took a 2-0 lead.

But Serwanja who eliminated Sam Opobo 3-1 in the other semi-final seized the initiative as he raced up 3-2 after snatching victory in the next three frames.

Wasswa had to dig deep in his chest to level it and never looked back as he went to secure a 4-3 victory. It was the second victory for Wasswa over his opponent following his win in the 2008 Grand semi-finals.

Both players and third-placed Medie Kalanzi qualified for the grand fnal due on September 6 at Lugogo.

At Orange County in Nalukolongo, Gideon Tumwizukye secured his maiden ticket to the grand final after beating Isa Mutyaba 4-0.

At Nateete Shopping Mall,  veteran Polous Bisaso overcame Edirisa Kakande 4-2. At Labamba Pub, Mustapher Bwire saw off Andrew Lukwago 4-1.
