KCCA football players to pocket sh600m in allowances

Starting this month, KCCA football players will have a reason to smile. The city authority governing body has put aside sh600m as allowances for all the players in this new financial year.

Starting this month, KCCA football players will have a reason to smile. The city authority governing body has put aside sh600m as allowances for all the players in this new financial year.

The funds are part of the sh2bn KCCA allocated in its financial year’s budget, to cater for games and sports.  About sh800 will also be used to organize co-curricular activities in both primary and secondary schools.

While presenting the budget at the City Hall on Friday, the city executive director Jennifer Musisi added that another sh600m would be used to facilitate and procure goods and services for KCCA sportsmen and women. Goods and services t0 be procured include kits, refreshments and travel, dance and drama competitions.

 “Our target is to boost games and sports in the city,”Musisi told city councilors.

In the last year financial year, KCCA allocated sh1bn to KCCA sports clubs. These include KCCA football, Netball, Basketball and other sports clubs. 

According to the authority’s annual performance report 2011/2012, KCCA facilitated the football players by playing their wages, allowances and football kits at a cost of sh349m.The football pitch was also fenced at sh56m and sh 118m was injected in international games.

In the report the city executive director pointed out that sh930m was spent on organizing athletics and participating in national primary school competitions.

Musisi told authority members that KCCA football club was finally granted permission to use Lugogo as its home ground.  

Meanwhile, city councilors, who were discussing the budget, said more funds should be allocated to sports and games in the next year’s budget.

    “We want games and sports to be taken more seriously. There are children in  primary schools, who are have  the talents but just lack some body to push them to go to another level,”Madinah Nsereko, councillor Kawempe division explained.
