The position of the assistant Bishop of Kampala diocese will remain vacant until the Archbishop elect appoints another Bishop to replace Zac Niringiye who retired last week.

The director of communications for the church of Uganda, Rev. Canon Dr. Alison Barfoot said the position of the assistant Kampala diocese bishop will remain vacant until the archbishop elect, Rt. Rev Stanley Ntagali is installed.

Barfoot said on Thursday the archbishop who is also the bishop for Kampala diocese is the only one charged with the responsibility of appointing the assistant bishop.

Just like the retiring archbishop Henry Luke Orombi, Niringiye retired seven years before his scheduled retirement.

Born on April 30, 1954 in Kisoro, Niringiye was consecrated assistant Kampala bishop in January 2005 at the age of 51. Bishops in the Church of Uganda are supposed to retire at 65, but Niringiye retired at 58.
