The UCU Canons are a playoff team and have been since they joined Division One in 2008. But with the new system instituted by FUBA that will have quarter-finals, upsets might rule the day.

The Canons currently struggling in fifth place with 14 points, three behind table leaders Warriors, will need to do anything it takes to pick up wins against ordinary looking sides like Eagles who they face this evening.

“Eagles is a great team, however, we have done our homework and we are fully aware of their strong points. So when we face them on Friday we shall play strong,” pointed out Canons point guard Sudi Ulanga.

Eagles registered their fourth win on Wednesday after seeing off Heaters 62-47 and maintain that they will come into this game with the same energy.

“We had a great game against Heaters but against UCU it will be a whole different game. We know they are bigger than us but we shall play basic basketball,”stated a confi dent Chris Kyebambe, Eagles’ manager.

Eagles’ Ivan Lumanyika dropped an amazing 18 points and picked 12 rebounds to register the game’s only double, while teammate Ronald Bajunga also scored 18 points.

In the women’s category, the Old Kampala-based Magic Stormers will take on arch rivals Makerere Sparks in the fi rst game of the day today. The last time these two sides met, Stormers thrashed Sparks but this is a new year and things could be different.
