As the countdown to Saturday’s Nations Cup qualifier against Congo Brazzaville gathers pace, Bobby Williamson finds himself with a puzzle to resolve.

The Scot has three days to decide on who will replace injured midfielder Martin Mutumba as his Cranes side look to overturn their 3-1 defeat suffered at the hands of the Red Devils in the first leg fixture.

Mutumba, who has been the subject of unprecedented criticism following his disappointing display against Senegal, last Saturday, has been ruled out of Saturday’s game.

It means Williamson will have to choose between Steven Bengo and Mike Sserumaga as possible replacements or opt for a 4-3-3 formation that will ignore wing-play.

However, as Williamson contemplates over the best decision, one player is ready to step onto the stage vacated by the Sweden-based midfielder and perform with better results.

“If they play me, I will do my best. I am training well at the moment and hope I can play a part,” Bengo pointed.

Of course Bengo has had his ups and downs over the last two years. Last year, he was hounded for failing to encapsulate the sort of form that rocked the 2009 CECAFA Championship, where he hit the ground running, tormenting the opposition with the full gamut of his repertoire.

But that was then as Bengo has in the last two months responded in the best possible way at SC Villa.

Even Williamson must have been pleased and certainly relieved of the coincidence given that he had lost the other candidate Sula Matovu to injury earlier on.

Congo Brazaville coach Jean-Guy told local media in Brazzaville that although his side are too wasteful, he had a defensive plan that would stop Cranes from scoring.

“We are going to play in Uganda with effectiveness. It is very dangerous to go down there (Kampala),” Wallemme told brazzaville-adiac.com.
