Kitebi U-14 team will represent Kampala in the grand final of the City Tyres Chenga Challenge after edging KYB 1-0 in the final at MUBS on Saturday.

Ubaidah Ssekanjako’s first half strike from a free kick outside the box, ensured the Lubaga side qualified for the finals that will bring together the best eight teams from across the country.

KYB defender Badru Waduuka had fouled Abdu Hamid Islam outside the box. From the resultant free kick Ssekanjako unleashed a powerful shot that proved too hot for KYB goalkeeper Brian Kityo.

The Victors walked away with a trophy and the sh1.5m up for grabs for every regional winner. Earlier on, Kitebi had beaten Makindye Cubs 2-0 with goals from Ssenkajako and Hamid Islam before seeing off the Kisenyi Somali community team with David Ssenabulya and Abdu Hamid strikes.

En-route the final KYB was 3-1 winners over KAYOFA Cranes and 4-0 winners over Maroons. Noordin Bunjo’s double strike and Arafat Ssebunya’s goal downed KAYOFA while Ahmed Ssebuliba, Ashiraf Mugume, Noordin Bunjo and Dan Mugwanya were on the mark as they overrun a visibly inexperienced Maroons side.

KYB’s Bunjo scooped the best player and top scorers awards.

Action continues on June 2 with qualifiers in Fort Portal before other qualifiers in Lira and Mbale on subsequent weekends.
