The government has postponed the enumeration exercise for the 2012 Population and Housing census due to lack of funds.

Caroline Amali Okao, the state minister for finance in a statement said that the census which was due to be conducted in August this year, has been postponed to August 2013.

“Whereas the census is one of the high priority programmes of government, it has been realized that the enumeration cannot be funded and conducted as earlier planned,” Okao said in a statement signed on May 11.

She said the exercise will be budgeted for in the next financial year’s budget 2012/2013.

In the meantime, preparatory activities will continue to be conducted by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Okao added.
