Police boss Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura on Monday refuted press reports of the police allegedly having quizzed Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi in connection with NRM party funds.

Kayihura also denied having taken part in the interrogations which were reported to have taken place in the Prime Minister’s office on Saturday.

The Police chief says on the day of the alleged interrogation, he was away in Masaka and there was no way he could have taken part in the exercise.

“I was not there and I do not know where they could have got their story from,” Kayihura said.

Asked whether the police interrogated the Prime Minister, Kayihura said he is not aware of any such development.  “You ask them where they got the story from,” he said.

A section of the local media on Monday carried a story that police had quizzed Mbabazi as it commenced inquiries into alleged unaccounted party funds.

The media report said the interrogations took place at Mbabazi's office and lasted over four hours as police also recorded a statement from him.

According to the report both Kayihura and CID boss reportedly attended the interrogations, an allegation Kayihura distanced himself from .

“I was away in Masaka on that day and that can be cross checked. So there was no way I could have attended the interrogations,” the IGP argued.

He left strong thinking point: “ Rights come with responsibilities. Was this responsible journalism?”
