Jinja gets sh6b for health

Jinja district has received sh6b for construction of accommodation facilities at Kagoma district hospital in Kagoma county and rehabilitation of Budondo health centre IV, the district LC5 chairperson Fred Gume Ngobi has revealed.

Jinja district has received sh6b for construction of accommodation facilities at Kagoma district hospital in Kagoma county and rehabilitation of Budondo health centre IV, the district LC5 chairperson Fred Gume Ngobi has revealed.

Gume said this while handing over a pick-up ambulance and a motorcycle registration number Budondo health centre IV at Budondo sub-county headquarters on Wednesday.

The ambulance and motorcycle were given to the district through the Government's Health System Re-strengthening Project.

Gume said the sh6b was funding from the World Bank through Government of Uganda. A total of sh4b will be spent on construction of doctors' and nurses' houses as well as wards at Kagoma hospital which is nearing completion," Gume said.

He said sh2b will be spent on construction of the out patients department (OPD), maternity ward, theatre, seven staff houses, incinerator, modern toilet facilities and a mortuary in Budondo health centre IV.  

He said Jinja has not been having a district hospital and has been relying only on Jinja regional referral hospital.
Gume further revealed that Kagoma hospital will also get two modern ambulances soon.

He urged Budondo residents to construct latrines in their homes and also boil drinking water. Gume handed over the ambulance and motorcycle to the Budondo sub-county LC3 chairperson Ivan Tibenkana and the in charge of the health centre, Titus Idondu.

The health centre however lacks water.
