The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr. Cyprian Kizito-Lwanga has urged Ugandans to be as humble as Jesus Christ was when he washed the feet of his disciples.

“By washing the disciples' feet, Jesus took it upon Himself to do the humblest duties that would generally be assigned to a servant. Being the supreme power, whom everyone knew, Jesus knew that none of the disciples would lower himself to wash the feet of believers. He did what he did so as to set an example to the world that man has to be humble to others,” the prelate said in his homily during a holy mass he conducted at Kisubi Seminary .

Lwanga explained that after washing their feet, Jesus said they should wash one another's feet as he had done, since he had given them the example of humility to behave as he had demonstrated to them in practical terms.

He added that by his acts of humility, Jesus, who was a revolutionary, also wanted to show his love for mankind, which he demonstrated further by giving himself up when he was crucified at the cross for the sake of God’s people.

Let us ask God to also give us this great virtue of humility, so that, in our own small ways, we can bring about the peace and harmony in our own surroundings.
