The Chinese Government is planning to probe Chinese firms that mistreat Ugandan workers, the Chairman General National Organisation of Trade Union (NOTU) has disclosed.

Usher Wilson Owere who is leading a delegation of 12 NOTU leaders in a week- long visit to China told New Vision from the Chinese capital Beijing that the time is up for Chinese firms that mistreat Ugandans.

“As a team representing Ugandan workers, we took it upon us to inform the Chinese Trade Union of the reports of mistreatment of Ugandan workers by Chinese firms, especially those engaged in road construction,” said Owere.

He said the All Chinese Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) promised to take up the matter with Chinese government.  “We have agreed to work together, build capacity and ensure that our workers are not exploited and mistreated,” he said.

The ACFTU vice chairperson Chen Hao and the head of the International Relations Peng Yong said it was the Chinese mandate to ensure that their firms operating outside China abide by the international standards that promote good working relations.
