Chinese Deputy Premier hails Uganda for regional peace

President Yoweri Museveni has held talks with the Vice-Prime Minister of the State Council of China, HUI LIANGYU, during a meeting at State House, Nakasero.

Hui who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, made a stopover in Uganda on his way to South Africa leading a delegation of Chinese officials who include, among others, the Chinese Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu.

He conveyed warm greetings from the Chinese President, Hu Jintao, to President Museveni and the people of Uganda.

According to press release from State House, The Chinese Vice-Premier, commended Uganda's role in regional peace and security and also hailed the cordial relations that have characterized the good cooperation between China and Uganda for over 20 years.

He pledged continued cooperation and support of the Chinese government especially in agricultural and technical sectors.

President Yoweri Museveni, welcomed the Chinese Premier to Uganda and expressed his satisfaction regarding the bilateral cooperation between the 2 countries as well as China's support to the African continent in the frame work of the Sino-Afro cooperation.

The President further praised China's historic role in the liberation of Africa as well as the principled position of the people of China in contemporary issues relating to world peace.

The Minister of State for International Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem among others, attended the meeting.
