THE Rugby Cranes desire to halt Kenya’s dominance of the Elgon Cup due next month is commendable but a tight 2012 calendar does not favour the Ugandans.

A sh50m sponsorship from Nile Special, a highly competitive league that the squad has been drawn from and loyal fan-base could defy the handicap of time constraint.

“I trust the team and we are going to bring the Elgon Cup home this year,” vowed Cranes captain Mathias Ochwo.

With the Elgon Cup first in Kampala slated for April 21 and return leg a week later in Nairobi, the Cranes have had to embark on training with the league at its climax.

Coach opts for experience: Cranes coach Yayiro Kasasa has opted for a largely experienced squad that can easily bond. Kasasa has requested clubs to let players train with the national team twice a week.

“We shall not overwork players because we know that they have league games. Because of the timeline they have to train with both their clubs and the Cranes,” Kasasa explained.

The Cranes tactician has also kept faith with Kobs’ Allan Musoke, arguably Uganda’s best winger, and Mongers’ Ronald Adigasi although they have played very few league games due to busy work commitments.

“Musoke and Adigasi are tested and proven players who work out on their own. They will be part of the squad,” Kasasa stated.
