UGANDA Super League boss Kavuma Kabenge might be under FUFA suspension but he still runs the show in the federation’s most powerful constituency.

Not even intervention of world soccer governing body FIFA could soften the city lawyer, who has continued to preside over key USL’s activities.

Convincing Kabenge to respect FUFA will be the key assignment of an eight man committee named by sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi on Tuesday.

The committee will arbitrate in the wrangles that have the two bodies clashing over control over the country’s biggest competition.

“It’s time selfish interests were put aside and everyone worked for the good of the game,” said committee member Badru Zziwa.

The committee will at 10am on Thursday have its maiden meeting at Mosa Courts, Nakasero. “It’s here that we shall get our terms of reference,” explained Zziwa.

Kabenge, who is on an 11-year suspension, has only relinquished his powers in the day to day running of the league. He has also showed no signs of an appeal.

Former FUFA presidential aspirant Abbas Kawaase has been appointed as interim committee head.

Battles between local soccer body FUFA and USL resulted in double postponement of the league and extremely late kick-off by one of the clubs Hoima -Busia.

“He is a very respected figure following his service as a former headmaster of school football giants Kibuli,” said Bakkabulindi while announcing the committee.

He however gave the committee an opportunity to try and discuss their terms of reference and how they will handle their programmes.

“What we want is football to benefit at long last and that is what we are all planning to see,” Bakkabulindi added.

Some critics however don’t see much coming from the committee, which is just one of several that Bakkabulindi has appointed with no effect in many sports bodies.

The committee has National Council of sports chairman Anthony Katamba, NCS secretary Jasper Aligawesa, veteran journalist Badru Ziwa, Sports commissioner Dan Tamwesigire lawyer Nyanzi Kiboneka, former Express chairman Godfrey Kirumira, Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala and personal secretary to the minister Yusuf Mukoka, who will act as  the secretary.
