Police in Soroti district are holding a 25-year-old man for allegedly defiling his 13-year old niece.

Willy Edonyu, a father of three was arrested at Opiyai A village after the police raided his home where a clan meeting was being held.

Edonyu was arrested following a tip off by one of the residents, after his niece, a primary seven pupil at Rock View P.S revealed to the clan members how his uncle had repeatedly defiled her.

The Child and Family Protection Unit at Soroti CPS, Florence Adongo said the man will be charged with incest and defilement. “We are going to charge him with incest and defilement,” said Adongo said.

Adongo said clan members had convened to make a feast or rite to atone Edonyu for the evil act.

“We found him being canned together with the girl,” she said adding that: “By that time they were even cooking a he-goat,” .

Meanwhile, Adongo says they are also looking for Edonyu’s brother, Robert Eyoku for allegedly burning his elder’s right hand breast using a jerrican, accusing her for sleeping away from home.

“Eyoku is on the run, but we shall charge him for causing aggravated injuries to the girl,” she said. “The doctors say she may require an operation,” Adongo added.

She said these children were being abused after their mother, Betty Itwou deserted her home due to domestic violence.
