THE enthusiasm that comes with scoring a goal or two is enough to motivate any football player to put the ball past a goalkeeper and more so at home in national colours before family and friends.

Such is the emotion that the chosen 11 Crested Cranes representing Uganda against DR Congo want to enjoy on Saturday at Nakivubo War II Memorial Stadium in the first leg of the Africa Senior Championship qualifier.

The visitors jetted in yesterday evening ahead of the clash.

The Congolese sent a message to FUFA confirming their arrival aboard a Kenya Airways flight.

When New Vision visited the Uganda camp at Kavumba yesterday, head coach Majidah Nantanda explained that the team has been working on defending. “We want to maintain possession when we get the ball and go forward as a team to score.”

According to the former Ugandan international Nantanda, the Crested Cranes have in the past suffered the same syndrome of not going forward. But she insists this side, which is featuring experienced and young players, has everything to produce good results come Saturday.

“These young players like expressing themselves so I know for a fact that they will do exactly what they are expected to do,” added Nantanda.

American trainer Lisa Berg changed course yesterday when she committed the team to off-pitch training which included watching a video of their game against Edgar’s youth team last Saturday.

After the mid-morning session, Berg had the women enjoy a 45-minute spell in the swimming pool for the water to massage their bodies.

Nantanda said she expects to see more of the attacking play today when two sides meet again this evening.

“We want to get used to playing at 4pm because our game on Saturday is in the afternoon,” added Nantanda.
