This clearly shows that the NRM government officials are losing touch. If you have been following public expenditure inquiries in the last 20 years, it is clear that Uganda has witnessed the biggest misuse of taxpayers’ money ever recorded in the history of this country. It raises other questions. Why is this happening in the NRM regime? Why is it mainly NRM officials being implicated in the scandals? Why is Kivejinja making such remarks amidst the CHOGM funds inquiry? The minister goes on to say that during his youth, corruption was not a problem. Let me remind him that during that time, the Government was in the hands of patriotic individuals who deeply cared about taxpayers’ money which they invested in empowering the youth to get jobs and necessary skills. The reason why today’s youth are thieves is because it is the only skill that they are copying from the leaders in Government today. We all know the names popping up in the CHOGM inquiry or the ones that were raised in the Global Fund and Temangalo saga. It is clear the NRM is desperately looking for someone to blame for the despicable level of corruption in the country. Since the youth are the most marginalised group, they are turning the blame on us.

If the Government does not address the problems of the youth such as unemployment and unequal representation, there is going to be a lot of unrest in the country.
