THE Uganda Taxi Operators’ and Drivers’ Association (UTODA) will banish taxi drivers and conductors who participate in criminal activities.

UTODA national chairman John Ndyomugyenyi recently said the Police had arrested several taxi drivers and conductors in connection with robbing passengers, especially during the recent festive season.

Ndyomugyenyi also said UTODA would impose sanctions on owners and managers of vehicles used in criminal activities. He argued that some of the owners were either accomplices or negligent.

“We urge passengers to always note the registration numbers of the taxis they board,” he said.

On Wednesday, there was fracas at the Old Taxi Park as UTODA officials barred taxis that had been implicated in criminal activities from operating.

The Police recently launched a crackdown on taxi drivers and conductors who rob passengers of their valuables, such as mobile phones.
