HER heart might be in the right place, but Peruth Apolot’s passion for fashion is still lacking if she hopes to change lives with it. The young designer, is a second year student of art and industrial design at Kyambogo University, and she was featured at Club Silk Fashion Nite last Thursday, where she showcased two collections of her original designs.

Together with her father, Charles Okuni, they started HIV and Special Needs Awareness (Hivasnat Fashion).

She is the designer and her father, the philanthropist with a passion to help HIV/AIDS and other special needs groups, morally and financially. The event was not so much about great fashion, but to raise funds for that noble cause.

Apolot’s designs lack the maturity and originality that it will take to turn her into a credible designer, but her African collection was trendy as she infused a lot of cosmopolitan themes with leggings and the empire waist to make them less dowdy.

The show-stopper was a Halloween make-up show which was entertaining but with little relevance. The proceeds from the sale of her designs will go to their organisation. They also started a magazine at the end of last year for the same cause.
