Ssekabanja robbed
- Kawempe RDC Edward Ssekabanja is, indeed, committed to the cause of the NRM, that he will lose anything to advocate its cause. During recent celebrations at Kololo Airstrip at which he was master of ceremonies, Ssekabanja said he had booked a crate of soda to drink whenever he took a break from the microphone. But as he was at the microphone praising the Land Bill, some youth “stole” his sodas. “But I do not mind since I was singing my praises for the Land Bill, something which gives me an opportunity to sleep because I no longer wake up to resolve land disputes,” he told the guests.

Bukenya’s big cup
- Vice-President Gilbert Bukenya professes to be either a Mahogany, Mountain Kilimanjaro or other things big for human beings to scale. This was reflected in his character when he arrived for the NRM national executive committee meeting at State House Entebbe recently. When he went to the coffee table, he found only small ceremonial cups, which he rejected. “Theses small cups will not satisfy me, you go to Mzee (Museveni’s) cupboard and bring me one of the biggest cups there,” he said. This sent the waiters scampering into the state kitchen where they emerged with a large mug and poured breakfast for Mahogany.

Ssaalongo Mirundi
- Presidential press secretary Tamale Mirundi never ceases to amuse. He recently told colleagues during a ceremony that he does not take on titles that the uneducated people in the villages also use. However, he said he is proud to be referred to as Ssaalongo (father of twins) because it is no mean feat to bear twins. “Otherwise, I would not have called myself Ssaalongo, because the local people in the villages also call themselves Ssaalongo,” he said, attracting laughter.

Museveni counsels
- President Yoweri Museveni never ceases to counsel the youth on HIV/AIDS. In the process, he has to repackage his messages not to sound boring. During a recent function, Museveni told the youth that some parents name their children names like Ntanda (packaged message) so that they take heed to avoid bad behaviour that could lead them to catch diseases like HIV/AIDS. “If you are not careful enough to abide by the message, you become dry ration for death,” he said, to applause from the congregation.
