KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda rally clerk of course, Stephen Byaruhanga, will take this year’s edition of the event away from the familiar route in Mityana.

The third round of the Africa Rally Championship is due in April.
Byaruhanga reckons that two consecutive years on the same roads are enough and will surprise competitors with a new route.

The former driver who was clerk of course of the event in 2005, has kept the new route close to his chest.

“I am still looking at several options. Mityana roads are being repaired and that’s not good for competition,” Byaruhanga remarked.

“I want a route that is quite tight. We are also considering an area where we are going to control fans and keep them safe.”

Byaruhanga replaced Kisitu Mayanja who was assigned other technical duties on the organising committee.

The Pearl rally which is expected to attract over 10 international crews from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa.

The drivers will be battling for the 2010 Africa championship.

The event organised by Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) is expected to be launched at an event in Kampala later this month.

Event manager Jack Wavamunno believes early preparation would yield high organisational standards.
