GULU is set for a historic moment this Saturday when Gulu Elephants hosts Lira Bulls in the Nile Special Rugby Shield League.

The game at Layibi College ground will be the first competitive rugby event in Gulu since the early 70’s.

“We are eagerly waiting for that day,” rugby union development officer in charge of the northern region Andrew Erachi said.

Erachi also explained that the game was hosted at the college to give an opportunity to students to enjoy the game.

Last year, national rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa led an upcountry development programme in Mbale, Gulu and Lira. The three towns formed teams that will play in the Shield League this season.
