CHINA is committed to work with Uganda in development programmes, the ambassador has said.

Sun Heping said his country had established channels through which the two countries will carry out trade and investments.

He made the remarks recently at the three-day workshop at the Uganda Management Institute for Chinese and Uganda educationists.

The workshop focused on China’s Partnership with Africa on aid for policy effectiveness.

The Chinese government announced the eight areas of partnership with African countries.

They include agriculture, trade promotion, debt relief, medical care and education.

Heping said his government was committed to completing projects like renovating Naguru Hospital, an agricultural demonstration centre and the office block building for the Government.

He added that for the past three years, over 390 Ugandan technical personnel had travelled to China for training on various subjects.

He added that the Chinese had also come to Uganda to learn more.

“Ugandans go to China to learn modern agriculture like using modern irrigation methods.

“Chinese fishery experts are working with the Ministry of Agriculture to help local people improve their products and enhance productivity,” he noted.

The head of the Chinese delegation from Tsinghua University, Prof. Lan Xue, refuted claims by some African politicians that China supports dictatorship.

“China was the first country to take aid to Haiti. We are not interested in who is in power but rather focusing on improving the welfare of the poor,” he stressed.
