DStv customers to pay thru Zain’s ZAP

DStv customers can now pay for their monthly subscriptions using Zain’s ZAP mobile money.

DStv customers can now pay for their monthly subscriptions using Zain’s ZAP mobile money.
This follows an agreement signed between Zain Uganda and Multichoice, the providers of DStv in Uganda.
“This is an example of what mobile phones can do to improve lives,†said Caesar Mloka, Zain marketing director, at the signing ceremony at Zain house in Kampala recently.
To use the platform, a DStv subscriber logs onto the ZAP facility on the phone menu and looks for the money link. Then, one needs to type the word ‘DStv’ and enter the amount of money they wish to transfer to Dstv.
“With the new system, the transaction will be reflected on the Zain/Dstv subscribers account within the hour the payment is made,†said a statement from Zain.
This is yet another addition from the innovative e-commerce that telecom companies have tapped into, to revolutionise the market.
Zain launched a school fees paying platform late last year through the same ZAP facility.
ZAP was launched in June 2009 and today drives some 11,000 transactions on a daily basis.
Helena Mayanja, the PR manager of Multichoice Uganda, said the partnership was aimed at deriving convenience for their clientele especially in this year of the World Cup in South Africa.
Mayanja said during soccer times, the lines are usually very crowded and therefore its difficult to attend to each and every customer. ZAP will now ease the process at no extra cost.
DStv has about 40,000 subscribers.
Although the subscriber numbers have steadily risen over the years, there are complaints about the cost of Dstv still being on the high side, inhibiting penetration.
