CHARLES Ssekyaaya stayed on course for another international medal after lifting his way to the continental qualifiers for the Singapore Youth Olympic Games. The qualifiers are due in Egypt March 19-26, while the Youth Olympics will run in September.

The 17-year old Ssekyaaya, a Commonwealth Youth Games bronze medallist last year, was inspirational at the national qualifiers after snatching 90kg and then lifting 115kg in the clean and jerk category for a 205kg total.

“It is the start of the season and I am eyeing another international medal. I will work hard for that,” he said at YMCA, Wandegeya. He beat Derrick Ssemambo (190kg) into second place.

Others that made it include Huzaifa Kawooya (50kg), Edward Kabugo and Semei Kasumba (56kg) and Nashiba Nakayiza, the only girl on the team.
